HONEYMOON SERIES II - AFRICA
A little off the beaten track as far as honeymoon destinations go, I think exploring this exotic and mystical land would be forever life changing. Cue wild safaris, golden sunsets and ancient mysteries - what could be more enticing than that.
Where did you go on your honeymoon?
Egypt
What was your favourite destination and why?
We visited Cairo and Hurghada (a city on the Red Sea) . We loved both but Cairo is so much fun! No matter what time of day or night there is always something to do. Definitely try and go on a tour or have a tour guide for some of the trip just to make getting around a little easier.
Must do activities there?
In Cairo you have to see the pyramids as they are incredible. I suggest to ride a camel or get a horse and carriage -Truly magical! If you can, go to the two new museums that recently opened up next to the pyramids too.
In Hurghada we did a lot of water activities such as; snorkeling, diving, wind surfing, jet skiing, parasailing and ate the freshest seafood I’ve ever tried. The water is crystal blue, it almost looks photoshopped.
Try and book a sand drive safari with the gypsies too if you have time!.
Must Stay at:
In Cairo we stayed at the Intercontinental, it’s attached to a huge shopping mall which makes things really easy. In Hurghada, we stayed at the Sea Star Beaurivage. Within the hotel you can plan all kinds of activities.
How long would you recommend staying?
In Cairo, I suggest four - five nights and in Hurghada, three nights.
For a touch of romance, go to:
Do a Nile cruise - You have a boat all to yourself, they play traditional music and serve you delicious Egyptian food.
And make sure you pack:
Sunscreen, a hat and sunglasses. The sun is something else on that side of the world.
Nour el Nil - Nile River Cruises
Where did you go on your honeymoon?
Southern Africa (South Africa, Eswatini, Botswana, Namibia)
What was your favourite destination and why?
It’s so hard to pick but Botswana has a special place in my heart for it's prolific wildlife, warm people, golden sunsets and variety of activities and accommodation (we did everything from camping to staying in luxury accommodation).
Must do activities there?
Safari in Chobe National Park (so many animals, especially elephants and lions). Sunset cruise on the Chobe River. Flight over the Okavango in either a six seater plane, helicopter, or hot air balloon (we did the flight). Traditional mokoro ride along the Okavango river.
Five day expedition into the Kalahari desert. Meet the Traditional san bushman. ATV Adventurer through the Makgadikgadi pans.
Or Vic falls because of how many activities there are to do there - Walk along the falls and feel the spray, helicopter flight over Vic Falls, romantic dinner cruise along the upper Zambezi, canoeing along the upper Zambezi, tandem bungee jumping, safari in Hwange National Park, white water rafting.
Must Stay at:
Onduli Ridge in Namibia (luxury accomodation where you can pull your bed out and sleep under the stars).
How long would you recommend staying?
Three - four days.
For a touch of romance, go to:
Another hard choice because Africa is such a romantic place but Hlane National Park in Eswatini (only a small amount of people, wild Rhino viewing at your doorstep, no electricity at night so you use magical paraphin lamps).
And make sure you pack:
A camera!
