Why I love rain on your wedding day…

I know first and foremost, most couples envision their wedding on a gloriously sunlit day as friends and family frolic joyfully in the warmth, sipping spritzes and getting tipsy on champagne. They religiously check the forecast every day of the month prior, wishing away any unwelcome form or precipitation. But as I sit here, about to officiate my second last April wedding for the year, the skies are peppered with gradients of grey clouds, looming ever so near and I have to say I couldn’t be more excited.

Rain on your wedding day might mean plans need to shift, outdoor settings may need to move inside and this can actually work out so well in your favour. Having all your friends and family all inside, all mingling, laughing, dancing can actually create the most electric feeling. More so than having everyone spread out amongst different areas.

And whether you’re into the symbolism or not, as far as I’m concerned I love the idea of water being seen as cleansing. Life can literally not be sustained without it, so thinking of rain on your wedding day as feeding your souls and preparing for a beautiful life ahead is the epitome of romanticism, don’t you think?

Then there’s the lighting of those overcast clouds - so even, so perfect for photos and you can trust me when I say, your photographer will be keeping the closest eye for any pause in the rain so you can get out for some portraits together.

So lean into it, whatever will be will be, the rain will fall, but you’ll still be married, everyone will enjoy themselves and the happiness surrounding you will be what you remember - not the rainfall count.

Just don’t get me started on the wind…
